David Rondeli (Tsagareishvili) was born on April 11, 1904 in Kutaisi. In 1927, he graduated from polytechnic faculty of Tbilisi State University. In 1927–1928, he was an editor of Proletarian Writers’ journal. From 1928 onward he worked at Saqkinmretsvi (Qartuli Filmi) first as a literary director then as filmmaker’s assistant and later as a filmmaker. He made the first color film in Georgia “mtsvervalta dampkrobni” (Mountain Conquerors) in 1952. He was granted honorary titles, Honorary Artist of Georgia and People’s Artist of Georgia. In 1950, he was awarded State Prize of the USSR. David Rondeli died on March 12, 1976.
