was born on June 23, 1946, in Tbilisi. In 1966, he graduated from theatre studies at Shota Rustaveli Theatrical Institute (now Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film Georgia State University). In 1971, he finished his studies in filmmaking at the National Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow under Roman Karmen. From 1968-1974, he worked at the TV Film Studio as a director. From 1974 onward, he worked at Kartuli Filmi (Georgian Film Studio). From 1986-1991, he was artistic director of the film studio 'Adam and Eve'. From 1988-1992, he was a board member and director of the Georgian-British company Moon Globe. From 2004-2006, he headed film studio Mematiane. He was a full professor at Shota Rustaveli Theatrical Institute and a member of the Union of Georgian Cinematographers. Buba Khotivari died on May 7, 2021.
