Levan Zakareishvili was born on May 17, 1953 in Tbilisi. He graduated from Geology – Geophysics Department of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University in 1975. In 1985, he completed courses in film making and script writing at the National Institute of Cinematography (VGIK). In 1976–1977, he worked as a geologist at the State Research Institute (Sakproeqti) and in 1977–1980, he worked as a construction engineer. In 1980–1982, Levan Zakareishvili was an assistant to a filmmaker at Gorky Film Studio. From 1985, he worked as a filmmaker at Kartuli filmi (Georgian Film Studio). He was a member of Russian and European Film Academies and candidate for membership of American Film Academy. He was recipient of around 15 prizes and awards of numerous international film festivals. Levan Zakareishvili died on August 21, 2006 in Tbilisi.
