After her husband was drafted, Sidonia has to bring up their five children. When the husband returns he finds out that his oldest fell a victim of revolutionary changes and his youngest was killed in the war. Years pass, the couple continue to live in the village. When her husband dies too Sidonia realizes that despite never leaving her native village she lived a life full of sorrow and joy.
