Together with other shepherds, Martia Akhlouri leads his flock of sheep to their winter pastures. But the shepherd’s life is hard and monotonous, which is why Martia's eldest son Gela refuses to continue what his family have been doing for generations. He abandons the sheep and travels to the city to find a new life there. Martia later dies while trying to save his sheep from a natural disaster, and when Gela returns from the city to find his father dead, he blames himself for Martia's death.
