After killing her violent and aggressive master, Maia Tskneteli disguises herself as a boy and flees her village. She comes across a nobleman selling serfs and sets them free, taking the traitor to King Erekle, to whom she reveals the truth about the disobedience of his noblemen. The enraged noblemen, who were profiting from their illegal trade in serfs, capture her, but her friends come to her rescue pretending to be taking part in an improvised carnival. She and her friends all join the king's army in order to fight the country’s enemies, but Maia, who is in love with one of her comrades-in-arms, dies heroically on the battlefield
