Kirile, the enemy of collectivization, is in trust with Tedo, chairman of the collective farm "The Orange Meadow" and furtively kindles the conflict between Giorgi and Tedo. Jealous Tedo comes to believe that Giorgi flirts with his fiancé. Kirile kills Tedo. The crime is inadvertently witnessed by Kostaia, a lazy peasant. Kostaia who gets to like the collective farm tells his story to its members who come to help Kostaia build his house.
