A wealthy peasant Droidze wants to appropriate widower Babale’s estate. In order to accomplish his plan, Droidze accuses Babale’s son Simona of forging some legal documents. Simona gets arrested, whereas his mother and son get evicted from their home and sentenced to live in the North. Droidze’s son makes an attempt to rape Simona’s wife Dariko. In her struggle to protect her honesty, Droidze’s son dies. Dariko flees the village and finds shelter in the woods, forms an armed group of peasants supporting her and defends local peasants from the onset of the Cossacks. Simona who escapes from jail, joins his wife.
