Hasan, an Adjarian peasant suffering from hard, futile labor, is forced to support his family by being a servant. Kulaki (in Soviet history, a wealthy or prosperous peasant) Ibrahim takes in debt payment the only cattle Hasan owns. The land where he worked so hard is swept away by torrential rain. To escape starvation and destruction, Hassan decides to join collective farm.
