This film is allegorical. Besame, a young shepherd gets lucky and with the help of the old maestro enters the conservatoire. Besame specializes in playing the flute. Annoyed by the rectitude of the maestro, the head of the city and his henchmen decide to get rid of the old man. Besame gets locked up in the penitentiary. Besame is tortured until his soul becomes impervious to any feelings. He forgets music and gets to like money. Besame becomes a real beast devoid of feelings. His metamorphosis scares even his coercers. Finally Besame gets out of jail and with the drum in his hands goes about the city to wake up people in the morning. He is rescued by the old maestro. The sound of the flute fills Besame’s heart with love, compassion and freedom.
