Otar Litanishvili was born on February 15, 1923 in Tbilisi. In 1941-1944, he participated in the WWII. In 1949, he graduated from Polytechnic Institute of Georgia (now Georgian Technical University) where he studied architecture. In 1955-57, he was a main architect of Sukhumi. From 1957, he was a main artist of Tbilisi (position at Tbilisi Municipality). From 1989, he headed Tbilisi Municipality’s Design and Improvement Department. In 1992-93, he was a mayor of Tbilisi. In 1993, he became a member of Georgia’s Parliament but left it after a year due to his illness. Otar Litanishvili was granted numerous awards and prizes, including Honored Artist of the Georgian SSR (1968), People’s Artist of Georgia (1980), Vakhtang Gorgasali Order (3 d degree) and Order of Honor (1998). He died on September 26, 2003 in Tbilisi.
