On a hot August day, Niko, Nia, Levancho, and Leri secretly go to the river near their village to have a swim. They come across the body of a dead man by the river. The children think the man is drunk and try to wake him up. Led by Niko, the children throw the body of the man into the river to wake him up. The body of the dead man starts drifting downstream. Children are scared to death and they follow the riverbed trying to pull the body out of the river.
