Marika and Nika decide to marry in a seaside town without letting their parents know about their plans but the town turns out rather unwelcoming, - looking too young for a couple they are refused a flat and by evening the local bullies manage to engage Nika into a bar fight. Only the appearance of another local young man nicknamed Birdy will make their life there more bearable. By using his wit and intuition Birdy manages to get some money for them but dies in an accident. His death prompts Mari to revalue her relationship with rather insincere Nika.
