The film depicts the post 1905 revolution period. Reactionary forces oppose the free mind and quell any attempt to progress. Intellectuals and patriots are being severely persecuted and killed. The people want to move forward from this quagmire but are frightened into inactivity waiting for the savior. Nikusha, a young composer, who comes to collect the folk songs, is taken as a conspirator. Nikusha and his friend Leko Tatasheli get right into the center of the developments. Leko, who assumes the fabricated crime, commits suicide. The intellectuals are put together and massacred.
