The movement for Georgia’s national freedom takes hold in the second half of the 19th century. As he arrives in his village, Niko Burnadze learns that foreign investors are about to purchase the forest adjacent to his village. Being aware that the fate of the forest and the ancestor’s graves are at stake, Niko starts going from one government office to another in order to save the forest. It turns out that the future of the forest can be decided just by one single signature. Those interested in selling the forest send their men to assassinate Niko. Distrust, hatred and hopelessness are prevalent in the whole society.
