At the end of XVIII century interests of Ottoman Empire, France, England and Russian Empire were crossed on the shortest route from Europe to India – Egypt. At the same time Mameluke rulers of Egypt were attempting to establish an independent state of Egypt. It was a period of time when the highest position of the Mameluke rulers’ hierarchy was occupied by the persons who had been kidnapped from Georgia, sold in slavery and then reached predominance. Part of the rulers of Georgian origin were on the side of Ottoman Empire, another part was fi ghting for the cause of establishing independent Egypt not forgetting their true homeland as well.
