The newspaper editorial gets a note that unless its staff covers 3000 kilometers by its motorcycle, the vehicle will be confiscated. Sandro, an intern, is the only person who can ride the vehicle. Sandro sets forth to a journey together with his friend Mito and grandfather Ardalion. The threesome goes through many adventures. Ardalion gets acquainted with archeologists and decides to stay with them. Sandro and Mito part too. One stays with the road workers and the other with a lone peasant. The motorcycle, which covers the required length is brought back by a truck.
