Lado and Tengiz decide to enter Batumi Maritime institute but Tengiz fails to pass the exam. Being ashamed of returning to the village he starts to work at the seaport. Lado is concerned over his friend’s plight and often goes to the port to see him at the expense of the classes. When Lado’s professor learns the reason of his frequent absence, he helps Tengiz be transferred as on-the-ground sailor. When times come for Lado to go at sea, he decides to stay ashore and help Tengiz pass the exam in mathematics.
