Maro learns that her lover Malkhaz returned back to the village for the local festivity. During his absence, Maro was betrothed to Commander Kiazo. The latter learns from Tsangala, that Maro met with Malkhaz and decides to confront his rival. At the same time Kiazo gets the news from his messenger that the enemy attacked his homeland and gets together the army in order to thwart the enemy’s assault. Right before the battle Maro tells Kiazo that she is not in love with him any more and gives him back the betrothal ring. Enraged Kiazo lethally wounds Makhaz and departs with his army for the battle.
