The Jigalov family is strongly inclined to marry their daughter Dasha to Aplombov, a young man who seems to show interest in her. Aplombov agrees to marry her under one condition - he wants a certain general to attend their wedding party. The man, who kindly agrees to come to the wedding turns out a fake general hired by the bride’s father to make sure he has fulfilled his son-in-law’s request.
