Stasenko, father of several young children is the driver of a train and often gets drunk. After three days of drunkenness, he falls out of the steam train and is severly injured. Stasenko's daughter Shurka with the intention to help her family decides to start working alongside with the neighbor's boy. The boy starts working in a train depot, while Shurka is denied the job. But Shurka does not lose hope, gets dressed in men's clothes and continues looking for a job. With the help of the young Communists, Shurka finds a job as a train conductor. During one of the rides the bandits attack the train. Shurka is actively involved in the process of their arrest. Among those arrested is her older brother Vaska. The young woman severely condemns her brother's behavior and demands his stric punishment.
