The film is based on a historical novel of the same name by Egnate Ninoshvili.
In 1841 in Guria, local noblemen dissatisfied with the government join a peasant uprising. Hassan Beg, the ruler of Adjara, also supports the rebels. The noblemen fighting in the tsar's army ask Dadiani, the ruler of Samegrelo, to help them defeat the rebellious peasants, but Dadiani's army joins the rebels. The Viceroy then suborns Hassan Beg with a large sum of money and finally suppresses the uprising with his help.
