No war whatsoever has victors. Shaliko who has just returned home from WWII tries to forget that nightmare and together with his son start life anew. But Shaliko is haunted by the wartime images. On one occasion Shaliko gets into a conflict with a shopkeeper who sells flour for twice as its original price. After his convalescence Shaliko learns that his son who witnesses the fight, has developed psychological problems. Enraged Shaliko kills the shopkeeper.
