The film is based on a story of the same name by Guram Rcheulishvili.
Guram sets out for Kakheti in order to attend Alaverdoba, an ancient Georgian religious festival famous for its riding and wrestling, but the young man is disappointed to simply find a lot of drunken people gathered around Alaverdi Monastery. Guram realizes that the centuries-old custom has lost its original meaning and has degenerated into mere drunkenness. Frustrated, he seizes a horse and rides through the crowd, causing a brief awakening among the revellers.
