Arsena witnesses a nobleman abducting a bride during a village wedding. He tries to free the young woman, who is being held captive on the nobleman’s estate, but in vain. Later, another nobleman rapes Arsena’s wife, and an enraged Arsena sets his house and all his property on fire. After escaping from prison, Arsena joins a group of rebellious serfs, but disappointed by their demoralized state he decides to fight his oppressors alone.
